I have owned and ridden a Trek road bike since around 1993 (Trek 1200), my new 2017 Emonda SL 6 is the best one yet. This is an awful lot of bicycle for the price that I paid for it. The Ultegra drivetrain is just as reliable as it has always been, my 2200 ZR is equipped with Ultegra and I haven't had any problem with it since I purchased the bike in 2006. My Emonda is just a dream, I love it and I am yet to get really comfortable on it. I am 6'4", so I ride the 62 cm frame and being as tall as I am, having a bike that fits, is nimble and fast, is responsive to my input as a cyclist, is all that I can expect from my bike. I will probably exchange the stem for a longer one, I have long arms and I am most comfortable in a less upright position. Not sure if at 63 years old, my Emonda will be the last bike that I buy, I will strongly recommend the Emonda SL 6 for any serious cyclist that is looking for a sub $3,000 bad....sss machine.
Without a doubt the best all around bike frame I've ever ridden. The stock 56 cm frame was like a custom made, I've never felt more dialed in to a bike fit whether hands on the bars, brake hoods and yes even in the drops. I'm a 6' muscular 210 lbs and the Emonda SL6 responds with nuance to out of the saddle sprints, climbs sitting down or standing on the pedals, and fast cornering. It accelerates effortlessly, not without effort of course, and is stiff with NO FLEX. My version is built out with the Shimano Ultegra 6800 11 speed Drive Train and pedals (Ultegra in my mind still the best value in the market for quality and performance). I upgraded the saddle, stem, and bars, the three components that over 20+ years of riding and experimentation provide me with perfect balance of comfort, fit and performance. Adding custom built carbon wheel set with Swiss DT 240S straight pull hubs and Sapim CX Ray spokes this is a super lightweight, fast, responsive riding machine and hands down my best ride ever. The only negatives I've ever seen related to the Emonda are comments about it's basic matte black finish. That's purely a matter of personal aesthetic and when you're suffering up a long, steep climb or battling a head wind the last thing you care about is how it looks, this is a bike for serious athletes. I myself prefer the stealth look opposed to elaborate and colorful paint schemes but again that's a matter of individual taste and preference that has nothing to do with the perfection this machine represents for me. Still not sure, find your local TREK dealer, ask to test ride the SL 6 and experience it for yourself.

I spent a fair amount of time searching bikes online and visiting some of the local bikeshops and chain stores. I initially shied away from the Trek brand because of their behemoth status in the industry, but I'm glad that I finally had an opportunity to check out some of their bikes at one of my local shops. The Madone was great, but I'm 44 with a cranky back and wanted something with a slightly more relaxed geometry. The Domane was nice, but felt a bit lifeless on the road. I was coming from a comfy 10 year old steel Lemond, so perhaps my expectations were a bit different for carbon bikes. After trying a few more bike brands and riding at other shops, the salesperson said "we need to get you on an Emonda". After a 15 minute demo ride, I was hooked. The best way to describe the bike is that it provides the perfect balance between race ready and endurance bikes. Fast and nimble, but still extremely comfortable. It's super lightweight, and I'm constantly amazed at the climbing ability of this thing. It feels like I'm being pulled by a cable up the hills. I'm waiting for my friends at the top of the hill now. I've owned it for nearly 6 weeks and have about 400-500 miles and I couldn't be happier. I've added the Bontrager bluetooth enabled computer, and went through a proper bike fitting with a modified stem and cleat positioning. The Ultegra 6800 group is excellent, many compare it to the previous version of Dura Ace. I did upgrade the wheels and tires, which has made a notable difference in the ride quality. It comes stock with Bontrager Race wheels, which is their entry level road wheel and hubset and 23mm R2 tires. I wish they would have at least included the Race Lite edition wheel set, but it's still a lot of bike for the way they've priced it. If you don't want to spend extra on wheels, I'd at least recommend moving up to some wider tires such as a 25mm. I'm 200 lbs, so it made a noticeable difference in the ride quality. I also upgraded the to an 11-32T cassette (my expense) to give me a few extra gears for our steep hills. This required a swap of the rear derailleur with a medium cage. To net things out, this is a fantastic bike that you'll want to ride as often as you can. Go test ride one!
